THIRUVANATHAPURAM: Following the initiation of action by the Hi-Tech cell of Kerala police, copies of the big budget movie Urumi were removed from YouTube and www.ashmagic.com. The sites where the movie had been uploaded promptly heeded to the message from the cyber cell.
The Hi-Tech cell has served notices to Google, videobb and US-based ashmagic.com for uploading the unauthorised print of Urumi. This followed a complaint given by Mallika Sukumaran, CEO of the company, which produced Urumi. However, the action didn't make any impact on several other websites which are also involved in the same business.
Online piracy sites have become so popular that not only geeks but ordinary net users are familiar with the sites offering new releases. Ironically, officials of HiTech cell and many in the industry are unaware of sites such as bharatmovies.com, go8pm.com and focuskeralam.com.
These sites also carried the unauthorised print of Urumi till Tuesday. However, the HiTech cell is silent of popular sites like www.extratorrent.com.
Based on the complaint of Producers' Association on March 30, the HiTech cell had served notices on sites for uploading films like 'Marykkondoru Kunjadu', 'August 15' and Christian Brothers'. "When we serve notices, most of the sites will remove the post. Some also offered support to find those who upload movies in these sites," he said.
