Thirty percent of marriages are happening with the support of online sites. On the flip side, fraudsters are finding it as a perfect platform to lure girls.
A profile can be created in these websites free of cost. A paid user can even chat with ‘prospective brides’ while the authenticity of profiles go unchecked. A profile of an ‘eligible bachelor’ might be a net to trap girls.A profile in one of the leading matrimonial sites is an example. The profile SVY3206 of the matrimonial site Jeevansathi carries the details of a man who seeks a Nair girl. The photo of the same man is used in SAR8625, where he seeks a Roman Catholic bride. The man presents himself as a senior manager in a Mumbai firm with an annual income of Rs 2,00,000 - 3,00,000. “Parents are no more and I have no brothers sisters,” he states. His last date of log in is July 6, 2011.Photos and personal details, including phone numbers, are available for a paid customer. If ready to shell out Rs 2000-3000, one can get access to details of girls and boys . The option for chatting makes victims more vulnerable.Kannan, MD of Intimatematrimonials, said more than 30 percent of prospective brides and grooms are relying on Internet for marriages. “The number of users vary from place to place. Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam have more users, while the northern parts of Kerala has less,” he said. “We can’t ask for certificates or other details. The guardians must check its authenticity,” he added.Recently, a Varkala-based man was arrested for cheating a nurse.
