The city can turn to Technopark to learn what responsible parking is
all about. Ironically, well-organised parking and parking space in every
building has not spared the techies from experiencing parking woes.
The major job of the security personnel at Technopark is not to guard the place, but arrange space and guide vehicles to park. According to techies, parking trouble has left few vehicles scratch-free.
Meanwhile, the Technopark authorities, who are well aware of the situation, are weighing better options. A new parking lot was constructed at Nila building recently. However, they feel that a multi-level parking facility is the need of the hour.
M Vasudevan, senior manager, Business Development, Technopark, confirmed that the authorities were planning to introduce multi-level parking at Technopark. “We have constructed a parking space at Nila. However, multi-level parking is needed considering the growth of vehicles. We have plans to introduce multi-level parking lots at the space available near TCS. But, construction of multi-level parking lots is a very costly affair,” he said.
The authorities are planning hassle-free automatic multi-level parking where the user can leave the vehicle at the parking lot. The parking and retrieval will be done automatically by the system.
Months ago, the demo of an automatic multi-level parking facility was successfully held at Technopark. Though it was economically viable, the project did not materialise.
Currently, the basements of most of the buildings in Technopark are set apart for parking. As many as 550 cars can be parked at Thejaswini (two floors allotted for parking); Gayathri building has 96 covered and 62 open car-parking slots; and Bhavani has 203 covered and 123 open car parking lots.
