Technopark is keeping its eyes glued on the US. IT and BPO firms in
the park are curious about the effects of two events in the US - ‘Sandy’
storm and the presidential elections.
With around 60 per cent of the companies having business connections with the US, Technopark is eager to know the devastative effects of Sandy. Policies of presidential candidates Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are the subject of serious discussions. The general feeling is that whoever wins, a change is unlikely for the Indian market. IT firms feel that the US stand towards China will turn in favour of India. “Since more than 50 per cent of the companies in Technopark have US clients, companies are obviously interested in the US elections,” said M Vasudevan, senior manager (business development).
“Last time, people were more curious about the policies of Barack Obama. But there was no action against outsourcing after he was sworn in. India being a low-cost IT destination, it is unlikely to face any threat,” said Gireesh Babu, CEO, Technopark.
Who has more supporters, Mitt Romney or Barack Obama? “There does not seem much difference in the policies of both the candidates. Both view China as an opponent. India might be considered as a strategic partner in IT,” Vasudevan added.
Meanwhile, BPO companies are curious about the policies of the next US government, especially its stand against outsourcing. Obama is too critical about outsourcing. However, companies are optimistic, terming his stand against outsourcing a ‘political stunt.’
“More than the election, what worries us is Sandy. It will have devastating effects on the US,” said Gireesh Babu. He said that he was getting messages from friends in the IT sector about power failure and other effects of the storm. IT firms are waiting for the effects of Sandy on business.
