Thiruvananthapuram: ‘Pray for Japan’ or ‘Save Japan’ might be the favorite PicBadge among the
facebook users worldwhile. But for a group of Malayali youths, who are high on election fever, PicBadge, a facebook application which enables the users to have a picture badge on their profile photo, is an excellent tool to woo young voters. PicBadges flashing the ‘hand’ symbol of the Congress and ‘hammer and sickle’ of CPM having started finding place in the profiles of young voters.
The users can create a PicBadge of their own style by using the application provided by the facebook. They can upload required images and resize it according to the need.
When Lijins Joseph of Mar Athanasius College of Engineering, Kothamangalam, created a PicBadge for Congress, it became an instant hit. As many as 332 facebook friends started using his Congress PicBadge as a statement of their support to Congress-led UDF. Lijins has also created one for the Indian Union Muslim League, which has so far got only two supporters. Meanwhile, following his footsteps, his classmate and friend Ajay Anto made an application for the LDF. If voting was on facebook, LDF might have won since Ajay got as many as 557 followers for his LDF PicBadge.
“Creating a PicBadge is easy. Many facebook friends, including KSU leaders, started using it. Most of the friends are ready to cast the votes. I created this to make others too aware of the election and to urge
them to vote,” said Lijins.
It seems youths are keen to express their olitical affiliations.
