The Technopark Bicycle Club (TBC) is back again after a brief hiatus. TBC, launched by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy amidst hundreds of cheering techies in December, later became inactive owing to several reasons. Irresponsible handling of bicycles to even theft derailed the normal operations of the club, which was touted as an answer to parking woes, pollution and the sedentary life of Technopark employees.

Athirup, the man behind the club, Technopark authorities and sponsor Allianz Cornhill Information Service signed a revised agreement last Monday marking the relaunch of TBC.

The TBC was launched in Technopark in December considering the success of Athi’s Bicycle Club, which was launched in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi last year.

However, cases of misuse and theft were reported from Technopark, following which TBC was closed down. “We have included some terms and conditions in order to avoid misuse. After email registration, users will be sent a handbook. We will collect details of the employee, employment firm, contact number, contact details of family members or friends etc. Also, a customer care service at 9744511777 is available for queries,” Athirup said.

He feels majority of members of TBC are floating users, who reach Technopark for 2-3 months of assignments.

The speciality of TBC is that usage fee is just ` 2 per hour. TBC operates on SMS-based service where the users can lock and unlock the cycle by sending SMS to 9645511155. The users will get SMS replies on details of number lock, usage fee etc.

TBC racks are available at several locations in Technopark - near Techno-mall, near car parking area at Nila, near the two-wheeler parking at Thejaswini and near the two-wheeler parking at Chandragiri.
